Memorial Day 2005

what a wonderful photo....this is the most special thing i can think of for a wonderful memorial day.....

this is on a ledge in the palm tree. their nest was probably way safer, but a few weeks ago a large amount of the fronds had fallen down. there are 3, maybe 4 babies, but the others have their heads "tucked in."

bob got huge amounts of bonus points for being the one to see them and tell me about them. i had been thinking the nest was up higher in the fronds. now i can understand how there can be crows and owls nesting in the same area....there's really a lot of places up there in these trees. this next photo shows the tree and the places where trimmed fronds have fallen out. it is the higher of the two ledges that the nest is on. it blends right in with everything.

later today...the babies were asleep long enough that i could clean up the sidewalk and even quickly rinse it off during their suburban nap so that people walking around the block wouldn't notice anything unusual.

then later two babies woke up and again i got my camera......i think they are curious about me, so it must have been their mother that was hissing at me the other day....when i had heard the loud hissing i had complied by going somewhere else...

now watch the owl fluff between them

rise up a little....

and it's a third baby owl face.....
