Growing Up In Suburbia
June 15, 2005
This week has been a week of changes. The entire family of phoebes was there one day, and the next day they were all gone.
I have been doing some painting on the exterior of the house, and while the birds are gone would be a good moment to clean and repaint the area around the front door. During this project one phoebe flew close by and squawked at me when it realized the nest was gone. This was the second family raised this year in the same nest, so i figured if they rebuild on the same location that is fine, but when i removed the old nest, i seemed like it must be time to change the old bedding.
Here is a picture of the phoebes the day before they left. It is amazing that the whole family of birds was in that small nest.

When the owls get all their feathers, soon it is time for them to fly from the nest.
The largest of the owls looked like it had most of its feathers in. On June 13 i thought the biggest of the owls had flown. I was feeling kind of emotional about it. Bob was watching tv. that was on monday.
Then Tuesday morning Bob went out to get the morning paper and came back to ask me, "where is the third owl?"
I thought that it had flown.
